RH Log Work, LLC and Moosehead Cedar Log Homes Promote Green Building With such an emphasis being placed on “green building” in the construction industry, MCLH is having no problem fitting in with the trend. In fact, MCLH has been promoting and participating in “green building” practices for years. It all starts with the use of Northern White Cedar as our primary wood species. Northern White Cedar is a wood indigenous to the state of Maine, which is where the log home packages are produced. MCLH partners with wood suppliers who engage in SFI and FSC reforestation programs. There are several reasons cedar is classified as a “green” building component: - Insulation - Cedar logs have a high r-value
- Cedar contains natural insect repellants - reducing the need for chemical treatment
- Air-drying (as we do) - reduces the need for fuel or electricity needed to kiln dry wood
For years, MCLH has also partnered itself with companies that promote “green techniques” to protect the environment. These eco-friendly products include adhesives, stains and sealants. Recently, MCLH has partnered with a local design center who promotes “green building” through its’ choices in flooring, cabinets, lighting and other interior finishes. Moosehead Cedar Log Homes is pleased to provide you with the following Verification Letter of our materials package. This letter explains the contribution that the MCLH materials package provides towards the necessary points to achieve certification in the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB) National Green Building Certification Program (NGBP).
